The Scarlet Knights Rigorous Schedule Continues with upcoming Highly Anticipated Matchup!

By John "Woods" Armwood III

Thursday night, the Scarlet Knights rigorous schedules continue as they are set to take on the No.1 UCLA Bruins (18-0) at home. Despite the underwhelming record from Rutgers (8-11), some would agree it doesn’t truly reflect the talent of this overall team. The Scarlet Knights continue to struggle to find their first victory in the B1G Ten this season, however, they’re gifted an opportunity to pull off an upset and pivotal moment in the program. Outside of the game's stakes, this game is filled with talent on both sides.

“McMiller is so explosive and fun with the ball, she just does some really creative things and I love players who play the game like an art project, not a scientific formula,” UCLA head coach Cori Close stated, after being asked about the preparation for Rutgers. “Their record is not  representative of the quality of their team, .. they’re a very good team.”

The star forward and seasoned veteran Destiny Adams will have her hands filled with one of the biggest college basketball prospects, Lauren Betts. Conversely, star guard Kiki Rice will also have her hands full with star freshman player Kiyomi McMiller. Each of these players averages double digits for the season, however they bring a unique skill set to the game that will be an interesting style clash.

McMiller vs. Rice

Many believe they were robbed of the JuJu Watkins and McMiller matchup, however all can be set aside with this clash of superstars. Both guards play slightly differently, yet they both impact the game tremendously. The veteran guard Rice will be leading the Bruins in an attempt to keep the streak alive but run the offense fluidly against a known scrappy Rutgers defense.

McMiller will be on the attack, as she is normally. While this will be her most viewed and anticipated matchup thus far as a Scarlet Knight, some believe she will have much to prove. Before the game, the star Bruins center emphasized how much each game means and how she intends to prepare moving forward for the Scarlet Knights.

“We’re going into this game the same way we go into every game, we’ll prepare to the best of our ability,” Betts emphasized. “We’ll push each other in practice and hold each other accountable that were holding the standard. It doesn’t matter about the rankings at this point, we’re trying to be the best version of ourselves.”

Will the Scarlet Knights Defeat the Bruins at Home?
