Wally “Main Event” Dixon Speaks on the Future of Women’s Basketball

By John "Woods" Armwood III

A Jersey Legend Comes Home

Wally “ Main Event” Dixon has always been bigger than the moment, but when he returned to the RAC, the moment felt bigger because of him. The Jersey legend, forever tied to AND1 and the culture that reshaped street basketball, walked back into his home arena with the same presence that once electrified playgrounds and mixtapes worldwide. For Dixon, though, the spotlight wasn’t about nostalgia, it was about evolution.
“Coming back to the RAC is always a blessing,” Dixon said. “When they say protect the RAC, we say protect the RAC.”
For a player whose roots run deep in New Jersey basketball, the building still holds meaning. It’s home. It’s history. And now, it’s a place to witness how the game continues to grow.

Why Women’s Basketball Represents the Game’s Future

That growth is what excites him most, especially when it comes to women’s basketball. Dixon spoke passionately about how far the women’s game has come, from grassroots levels to the professional stage.
“I’m very happy to see how women’s basketball has evolved,” he said, shouting out his sister Tamika Dixon and her impact, along with programs like the LA Sparks and Kansas.
To him, the progression isn’t just visible, it’s undeniable. Fans weren’t just there for highlights; they were there for stories. Autographs filled the website, each one carrying meaning beyond ink.
“Some of them are small,” Dixon said, “but there’s a ton of stories.
For him, that’s what real basketball looks like, not just flashy moves, but connection, authenticity, and shared history.

The RAC itself symbolizes that evolution. Dixon remembers a different era, a different style of play, and a different platform. Now, he watches a new generation push boundaries, especially women athletes, finally receiving the visibility they deserve.
“Shout out to women’s sports,” he said simply. “Unbelievable.”

From AND1 Roots to What’s Next?

The event also brought excitement for what’s next. Two fan-favorite contestants are set to return, creating anticipation and energy that mirrors the AND1 spirit of the past while embracing the present.
“It’s an absolute honor to have them on the platform,” Dixon said, reinforcing how much community still matters in this space.
For Wally Dixon, the RAC will always be home, AND1 will always be family, and basketball will always be bigger than one era. His return wasn’t about reliving the past, it was about celebrating how far the game has come and where it’s headed next. Standing at the center of it all, Dixon made one thing clear: real basketball is alive, evolving, and finally being seen in its fullest form.
