Taylor O'Brien Journey Is Fueled by Perseverance and Gratitude

Watching Women's Basketball Reach New Heights

Taylor O'Brien has witnessed the remarkable rise of women's basketball, and she's grateful to be part of a generation helping elevate the sport. Speaking at the Invitational Classic at Drexel University, O'Brien reflected on the growing support surrounding women's basketball and the opportunities now available for future generations.

"The game is just growing and growing so much every year," O'Brien said. "I'm really excited to be a part of it."
She believes the increasing investment in women's sports is creating new pathways for athletes and inspiring the next generation to dream bigger. The announcement of a WNBA franchise coming to Philadelphia is one example that excites her most.
"It's such a huge opportunity for Philly as a whole, for women as a whole," O'Brien said. "I'm really grateful to be in the time of watching this."

A Journey Built on Opportunity

O'Brien's basketball career has taken her from Bucknell to Florida State before continuing professionally overseas in France. Each stop has reinforced her appreciation for the opportunities basketball has provided.
"I feel like everything happens for a reason," she said. "I'm really, really grateful for every opportunity that I've been given, and I worked really hard to get there."
Playing overseas has offered more than competitive basketball. It has given her the opportunity to experience different cultures, meet new people, and grow both personally and professionally.
"I think playing overseas is a really great opportunity to see new cultures, see new people, and learn a whole bunch of new things."

Appreciating Every Milestone

When asked about her "Sh3GotGame Moment," O'Brien admitted it was difficult to identify just one defining memory. Instead, she reflected on her transition from Bucknell to Florida State, where she found herself competing against some of the nation's elite players.
"Playing on a big stage at Florida State and competing against some of the best girls in the country was surreal," she said.
Even today, competing alongside talented players at showcase events continues to remind her how fortunate she is.
"So many girls are so great at this sport, and I'm so grateful to be a part of this."
Rather than measuring success by one achievement, O'Brien appreciates every step of her journey.

Perseverance Is the Foundation

If there's one lesson O'Brien hopes young athletes remember, it's to never stop moving forward.
"Keep going and give 100 percent at everything you do," she said. "Everything happens for a reason."
She encourages young people not to become discouraged by temporary setbacks.
"If bad things are happening or you're not in the best situation, keep your head up," O'Brien said. "It's temporary."
Most importantly, she believes athletes should enjoy the process instead of focusing solely on the destination.
"You've got to enjoy the moment as you're going," she said. "I really think you have to enjoy everything you do.
That philosophy has guided Taylor O'Brien throughout her career, proving that perseverance, gratitude, and embracing every opportunity can take you farther than you ever imagined.
