Nyra Sabally: The Small Things Behind a Perfect Start

By John “Woods” Armwood III

For a team riding high on a 10–0 start to the season, it might be easy to get comfortable, to celebrate the record, highlight the star moments, and bask in the buzz. But for Nyra Sabally, the foundation of success isn’t found in headlines or scoreboards. It’s in the small things.

“Yeah, I mean, I think it's really important. I think it's important to emphasize the small things,” Sabally said after their tenth straight win. “That’s what kind of makes a good team—emphasizing the small things. And even if it's going well, there's always stuff you can do better, always stuff you can improve. So really honing in on that.”

Sabally, known for her steady presence on both ends of the floor, has emerged as one of the most detail-driven leaders on the team. Her mindset is reflective of a group that refuses to plateau. Instead, she and her teammates remain committed to growth, even in victory.

More Than Just Wins

What separates this team from the rest is not just talent—it’s accountability. Sabally emphasizes the idea that perfection on paper doesn't mean perfection in execution.

Every screen, rotation, box-out, or off-ball cut matters. And for Sabally, cleaning up those moments—whether in practice film or late in the fourth quarter—is what allows good teams to become great ones.

Setting the Tone

Sabally’s message sends a signal to the rest of the league: this team isn't satisfied. Her focus on fundamentals isn't just about personal improvement—it's a call for collective discipline. It’s about making sure the group continues to elevate, even when wins stack up.

Locked In

At 10–0, this squad has the momentum of a championship contender. But with leaders like Nyra Sabally ensuring no detail goes overlooked, it’s clear this team is chasing more than just wins—they’re chasing greatness.

And in their pursuit, every small thing matters.
