For veteran guard Lexi Brown, the grind of professional basketball doesn’t stop when the final buzzer sounds. As a member of the Seattle Storm and a seasoned WNBA pro, she’s built a career rooted in two guiding principles: relentless work ethic and strategic self-care.
Brown understands the toll the game can take on athletes’ bodies—and the importance of protecting the investment.
“The importance of taking care of your body. You know, you see a lot of players going down, a lot of players sitting out of games, being injured, things like that.”
And for Seattle, that hasn’t been the story.
“I mean, I'm not going to jinx us, but we just don't have those types of problems on this team.”
She credits that to the habits and discipline of the veterans around her.
“It's because our veterans just take such good care of their bodies. They're always lifting. They're always in the gym. They're always working out, whether they play a ton of minutes or not a lot of minutes. They're in that gym, recovering, taking care of their bodies.”
For Brown, it’s a non-negotiable part of being a pro.
“That's something that I've always prioritized for myself as well. So to see most of the team, almost all of the team, making that a priority is something that's been really cool.”
Beyond Basketball: Building a Lasting Brand
Yet for Brown, the discipline goes beyond physical fitness—it’s a philosophy of maximizing every hour of the day, both for longevity in the league and for building a personal brand beyond basketball.
“I grew up in a home of a pro, so this is the lifestyle. This is the life that I've always been around. It's all that I know.”
She knows firsthand how hard you have to work in every area.
“And I know how hard I work. I work extremely hard at my craft, which is on and off the court.”
Lexi is clear that there’s no time to waste.
“There are 24 hours in a day. And, you know, my parents have taught me to utilize those 24 hours because not everybody has those 24 hours. You don't know when you're going to run out of 24 hours. You need to use them and maximize it as much as you can.”
A Career Built to Last
Brown has indeed made the most of her time, transforming herself into more than just a basketball player. Her presence extends into modeling, podcasting, and content creation—balancing multiple lanes while maintaining her role as a valuable contributor on the floor.
But she knows how rare it is to stick around in the league year after year.
“Staying on a roster, that's not an easy thing. We've seen it a lot this season. A lot of super-talented players are at home right now.”
That’s why every moment matters to her.
“So I never take these opportunities for granted. It's always a blessing to be here. And I always, you know, want to work my hardest to get, you know, a hundred and ten percent of everything that I do.”
A Modern Blueprint for Young Players
Brown’s career serves as a masterclass for younger players who hope to not only survive but thrive in the WNBA. From taking care of her body to growing her presence beyond the court, she embodies what it means to be a modern athlete: resilient, versatile, and always working toward what’s next.
Lexi Brown may be a veteran, but her ambition ensures her story is far from finished.
