Jonquel Jones Shocks Everyone but New York Liberty Fans

By John “Woods” Armwood III

Every season, the WNBA grants their players and each organization for All-Star break. Many anticipate this break because of the Olympics and many find it entertaining that the best of the best go out and compete among each other. That said, many fans who may not have the opportunity to watch other teams around the league play, get an opportunity to witness the greatness and skillset of other star players around the league. Despite the New York Liberty being loaded with talent and having the best record, unfortunately the talents outside of their key three players at times get overlooked.

For example, many don’t know that Liberty All-Star center Jonquel Jones is the best three-point shooter in the league over 6’4. In fact, the 2021 WNBA MVP is averaging a career-best 1.6 made threes per game and already surpassed her 2023 total for made three-pointers (32) after knocking down 40 of her 101 attempts from beyond the arc in 2024.

History was made by Jones, but most importantly she put the league on notice with her shooting abilities. Moving forward, the Liberty already surrounding this team with shooters, can now run plays directly for Jones beyond the arc.

"Look, I always say when they invite me I'll do it," said Jones. "So if they invite me, I'll beat her too."

Jonquel Jones Appears in the All-Star Game

Jonquel Jones finished with six points, seven rebounds, and five assists to go along with two steals and a block in Team WNBA’s win. Jonquel is the all-time WNBA All-Star Game leader in career rebounds per game, at 11.2 (min. two All-Star Games played). Jones is the only center in WNBA history to record at least three assists in four consecutive All-Star Game appearances. She is also the only center all-time to record at least seven rebounds and five assists in multiple All-Star Games.
