Jazailis Refuses to Let Yesterday Define Her !

By John "Woods" Armwood III

A Song About Moving Forward

Every artist faces moments when the dream that once came naturally begins to feel difficult to chase. For Jazailis (Gual), her latest single, “Yesterday,” captures that struggle while delivering a message about perseverance, self-belief and refusing to let the past determine the future.
“Yesterday is dedicated to moving forward, even when you feel like your past is trying to hold you back,” Gual explained. “This single is about perseverance and knowing you’re so much more than your mistakes.”
Her journey has included criticism, uncertainty and the challenge of balancing a traditional nine-to-five job with her creative ambitions. Yet Gual remains committed to her calling, believing her dreams are achievable even when others encourage her to pursue something safer.
“With Yesterday, I realized my dreams are truly achievable when no one knows the plan behind them,” she said. “What people don’t know about, they can’t ruin.”

Finding Her Voice Again

Following her first release, “Another Chance,” Gual experienced a creative block that forced her to confront her uncertainty. Something that once felt effortless, singing, had begun to feel like a chore.

She revisited the joy she experienced as a child, recognizing how much her relationship with music had changed. Rather than allowing that uncertainty to define her, she used it as inspiration for “Yesterday.”
“Today, I know the weight of that sacrifice and continue to pursue it anyways,” Gual said.
Her father, Rich Gual, hears that perseverance throughout the record.
“Listening to Jazailis’s song ‘Yesterday’ brings an emotion of a warrior who’s lost a few battles but ultimately wins the war,” he said. “It’s a new beginning of life on a daily basis where we turn the page of yesterday to a new chapter of today.”

The Moment She Knew

Gual’s Sh3GotGame Moment dates back to third grade, when she performed in an elementary school talent show after watching a child sing on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Inspired by Susan Boyle’s rendition of “You’ll See,” she practiced for weeks before taking the stage.

While other performances struggled to capture the audience’s attention, Gual remembered the entire gymnasium falling silent as she sang.
“Every eye was directed at me. Every conversation ended,” she recalled.
Initially confused by the sudden attention, she wondered whether she had done something wrong. But when the room erupted in applause, she recognized something special in her voice.
“As a child, my voice captivated an entire room of adults,” she said. “From that day on, I knew I had to try creating music for the entire world to hear.”

A Dream Worth Pursuing

Ultimately, Gual hopes “Yesterday” encourages listeners to pursue their own ambitions without becoming trapped by regret.
“I hope ‘Yesterday’ reminds everyone that it’s okay to think back on the past, but only to fuel your future,” she said.
Rich shares that vision, hoping audiences connect with his daughter's originality and the emotions behind her music.
“I hope the world feels that they can accomplish anything and can go after their dreams no matter what,” he said. “They just have to try.”
For Jazailis Gual, “Yesterday” is more than a song about looking back. It is a reminder that uncertainty does not have to end a dream.Sometimes, the next chapter begins when you decide to believe in yourself again.

With a voice as angelic as Jazailis, her music allows you to connect with her lyrics in your own way, finding pieces of your own story in her words. There is something so beautiful about being able to feel encouraged, understood, and reminded that your past does not have to define your future. Her voice carries more than just a melody, it carries a message. What a STAR!
